February 2007 Meeting Minutes
Call to Order: 7:00 pm
Pledge of Allegiance
Members Present: Richard Bonewits, Claudia Brisendine, Les Dawson, Susan Dawson, Kevin Daoust, Steve Hiester, John Huson, Warren Iverson, Gordon Moorman, Rob Morris, Peter Rimbos, and Patrick Seiver.
Members Absent: Dave Fields, Eric Harris.
Guests Present: Major Dave Germani, Marissa Alegria, Reagan Dunn, Viet Nguyen

7:10 PM: Public Comment: None
7:10 PM: Website Design Presentation/Zach Johnson: Zach Johnson, a student at Tahoma High School, with the help of his Multimedia teacher, Crystal Monteiro, has been developing an internet website on behalf of our council. The council believes our public will be more in touch with efforts by GMVAC. Zach presented his work to date. There are a few changes to be made and the website will be completed (possibly by our next meeting in March). Chairman Bonewits expressed our pleasure with Zach’s work. 8:15 PM: King County Councilman Reagan Dunn: Councilman Dunn, representing the 9th District, reported on the issues important to those of us in the unincorporated Maple Valley area, chiefly those of transportation and regional congestion. Councilman Dunn reported his recent appointments as chair of both the King Council’s Transportation Committee and the Regional Transit Committee in addition to being member of the Executive Board of the Regional Transportation Investment District, which along with Sound Transit, has been working together on a plan to improve transportation in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties. The plan will go before voters in fall 2007. Councilman Dunn also is a member of the King County Council's Growth Management & Natural Resources Committee (the committee charged with making recommendations on policies relating to land use development, comprehensive planning, development regulations, regulatory reform and recommendations to the Department of Development and Environmental Services).
8:45 PM: 2007 Model Train Show/ Steve Hiester: The 2007 Train Show was discussed. It was moved, seconded and voted yes 6/no3 to support the 2007 Model Train Show.
9:00 PM: Website Status/Dick Bonewits: Chairman Bonewits made us aware of a company called Network Solutions as a possible website host. By unanimous vote, Chairman Bonewits will investigate more and make a decision as to our host. By unanimous vote it was decided our website will be listed as GreaterMapleValleyAreaCouncil.org.
9:30 PM: Continuations of Rural Vision Statement Development: Peter Rimbos asked council members to read and respond to the Underlying Objectives in the Rural Vision Statement. Send responses to Peter Rimbos within days if any changes are requested.
9:45 PM: GMVAC Financial Report: Kevin Daoust reported on current status of our funds (report attached).
Announcements: Kind County Business Relations and Economic Development Coordinator Julia Larson will report on Economic Strategies in May. |
