Review and Approve Agenda: So approved.

7:15 PM: Public Comment on Topics: Dick Broullet spoke about his concerns of the lack of street signs indicating street names in his community. Also, he cannot find his street name on any maps. He is concerned that emergency vehicles might not be able to find him and his neighbors in the event of an emergency. Representatives of the county will help him contact road divisions to address the problem.

7:20 PM: Rural Initiative: King County indicates it is developing a Rural Initiative through a Rural Advisory Commission patterned after the Rural Forest Commission and the Rural Agriculture Commission. Lauren Smith of the Department of Natural Resources and Parks (DNRP) Policy and New Initiatives Team has been designated to work with the rural Unincorporated Area Councils (UACs) to help set up a Rural Advisory Commission. Ms. Smith has met with the four rural UACs Chairs and received the following major inputs: (1) UACs already act as Rural Advisory Commission members; (2) this new County-appointed group would just be another layer between government and the people; (3) Rural Area citizens deserve to be listened to directly by County officials; (4) filters should not be placed in communication channels; and (5) more Rural Area UACs are needed to fill voids in representation (e.g., Enumclaw area, Snoqualmie valley, etc.). More meetings between the four rural UACs Chairs and Ms. Smith are planned.

7:35 PM: Preliminary Rural Vision Development Exercise: Greater Maple Valley Area Council has decided to formulate a “Rural Vision” of our community. Last month Dave Fields distributed a beginning to the development of this Rural Vision for. This Rural Vision will help us to solve problems that come up in our developing community. We will develop an “overarching” statement of our Rural Vision developed through information gleaned in our biannual Citizen Advisory Ballot Surveys. A number of elements of this overarching statement have been identified. Each member in attendance was assigned a specific element to write specific do's and don't's about and Les Dawson is to compile these statements for presentation at our next meeting.

9:00 PM: Committee Assignments and Reports: Peter Rimbos will have by-laws revisions from his committee for the next meeting.

9:40 PM: Announcements: Next meeting-Monday, May 1, 2006 at Sheriff's Precinct # 3 Headquarters at the intersection of 231st St and SR-169
